What's Up Wednesday

Hey y'all! I know I've been a baaaddd blogger lately. Sorry. Here's a bit of a catch up. Just a "what's up" to brighten your wednesday.

1) We visited North Carolina last weekend for the Angels Among Us walk for the Robert Preston Brain Research Center something or another at Duke University. Our friends' son has a brain tumor so there were about 30-35 of us there on Nathan's Faithful Fighters team. We had cute superhero shirts. I'll post pics later.

2) We sold the truck. SAD!!!:( But were trying to downsize a bit and eliminate some bills/debt. We decided we can get around with one car and save ourselves a car payment and insurance. However, now we can't throw the christmas tree in the back of the truck, or go camping in it, and I can't use it as my lunchroom/nap room anymore. But were onto a new adventure.

3) Luke graduates on May 15th. Thats like 16 days away. YAY!!! His mom and stepdad are coming for graduation, so we are pretty excited to see them. Pray for us as were in the home stretch and Luke is trying to finish up all his school work. Senioritis has definitely set in.

4) My job is finally enjoyable again. There was some drama about a month ago or more and it caused me to not want to go to work. Its finally better though. And I've been really busy lately too.

5) I started a new quilt. I know, I haven't finished the last one. Its a stress reliever. Its another purely scrap quilt. Its in pinks and purples. I think it will turn out really cool and I probably won't want to give it to the intended recipient. ha ha. I'm really liking the scrap look. And it has so many more memories to it. I can tell you exactly where each fabric came from. Luke is definitely getting trained in being a quilt husband. He appreciates all the work that goes in to them. He hasn't quite grasped the fabric obsession yet, but were working on it.

6) Speaking of quilts, we got out a beautiful quilt we got for our wedding. One of my old 4-H leaders/mentors made it for us. Its purple, pink, and orange (my fave colors) with a green background. Its so amazing. I love it so much. Its been spring/summer like weather in Lynchburg, so we have downsized to a lighter blanket on the bed and its perfect. It means so much to me too.

7) Big news coming soon. I can't say anything yet. Hopefully two announcements. :)

8) Our friend Lizzie is graduating in a week! yay lizzie!

Not much else is exciting. My mom is on vacation in Hawaii, lucky dog.

Quilting UFOs are now FO's

Remember like eons ago when I was working on a quilt for baby Caleb? Well, I finally finished sewing on the borders (took my like .2 minutes - I am such a slacker). Here are two pics - the total quilt shot and the closeup shot.



I used my phone camera, which is why it is fuzzy. I'll take a real picture with a real camera when its finished.
Im going to have it professionally quilted so that it actually looks nice. I strongly dislike doing the quilting by myself. Its kind of hard and takes forever and I am not patient enough to do anything but "stitch in the ditch." Anyways, I got my inspiration from here: . I heart quilting blogs!!

Green Quilt

Im going green! (In more ways than one). Here's a teaser of the quilt I'm making for Caleb. Its green in color, and green in the sense of recycled. This is kind of random, but Im on a 'use all my old fabric' kick and so I used this green fabric that my brother Mark had given me. It was a toga that he wore to a Pike Toga Party. And the black w/ wild colored jungle animals was from the back of a quilt that he made a long time ago. My brothers will probably kill me for this, but one year we all went to Quilt Camp (4-H). And we all made quilts. Mark's was every bright crazy color imaginable in every crazy pattern imaginable. But it turned out really cool. And Scott's was fishing themed. Mine was boring in comparison. It was green and black and tanish/creamish colored. Im trying to remember what year it was. I think it was 1996 or 1997. I was 14 or 15, Scott was 11 or 12, and mark was 9 or 10. I think my mom even came. She can't sew to save her life, but she can seamrip with the best of them!

Blogs are Sew Fun!!

I've been on a total sewing kick lately. I think because a) we ditched the cable to save money, and b) I keep finding sewing blogs. I love it! Its so inspiring to see what other people are doing, whether its quilts or bags or whatever. I keep downloading free bag & purse patterns. I have a binder that I put all my downloaded patterns into. I downloaded one last week and two this week already. Maybe one of these days I'll actually sew some and maybe I'll open an etsy account and sell my stuff. Etsy is a website where people can post their handmade objects for sale - i.e. purses, hats, jewelry, etc etc. I want to post some of my earrings. Maybe I can make some money off my hobbies.

This weekend for "quilting for orphans" we went on a field trip instead of quilting. We went downtown to the fabric store and picked out 26 different fabrics for quilts. There was some super cute stuff! I love fabric. Its really a disease.

I also made a skirt this weekend. Sewing clothes for myself is not always a success. I bought the pattern a few weeks ago and was using fabric that I've had for eons. I measured myself and chose the size based on the back of the pattern...After I finished the skirt I tried it on and it was horrible!! It was too big and hung down too long which made me look awkward since I'm so short. So now I am going to basically take it apart and start over. We decided the pockets weren't cute so I'll axe those and just take in the seams on the skirt panels. I'll have to fix the waistband too, and redo the zipper. yuck. I despise sewing zippers. I'd much rather do snaps. You get to hammer! Anyways, I'll post a picture of the skirt now and then after I finish it. Sigh.

Quilt Ministry

At church I belong to the quilt ministry. Basically its just an excuse for us quilters to get together once a month and make quilts for African orphans. Its rewarding and we all know how much I love quilting! Here are two quilts I made. The first one was the first one I made. Theres only one place where my blocks didn't quite go together right (meaning the fabrics), but probably nobody notices except me.


The second one is the same "pattern" essentially, but neither time I put it together the way it was supposed to be put together. I just didn't really like it so I did my own thing. This is kind of how I roll. I like the second one the best. I think it turned out really cute.


Alli said my quilts made her want to be an orphan. :)
